Stress

can feel like this !

Stress is the outcome of our inability to cope with pressure.  Sometimes this means too little pressure, sometimes it means to much pressure.  When we are under stress a series of biochemical changes occur in our bodies - hormones are released to inhibit certain functions and increase others as our systems prepare to conquer the percevied `threat`.  This brings its own symptoms perhaps  nausea, or lightheadedness add to your discomfort.  You feel exhausted.   Your body is in Red Alert and if you remain in this state over time you risk becoming chronically stressed.

We all need a little stress as a motivator to get us up and going but there is a proven link between chronic stress and illness.  Stress is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly.

Tension

One way to think about the tension felt in the body-mind is that it is the result of your feeling a need to protect yourself.  The body is the storehouse of all your prevous experiences and reactions.  when you encounter a situation or event you subconsciously and automatically search for an appropriate reaction, a response that worked well in the past.  Your body-mind remembers and repeats itself in the tried and tested way.  Most of the time we do not realise we do this, we react automatically.  Put another way, we are creatures of habit.

Unfortunately some  old reactions and responses (habits) are unhelpful to us in our present experience.  We want to do something different and so we need to learn to respond in different ways!  As most of our responses are conditioned, or learned, we can lay new learning over old.  Sometimes all it takes is to become aware of how you respond and how it is not helping.  Sometimes the process is more challenging.  I can help you by suggesting  a variety of techiniques in combination with my ongoing support.

Modern life

Stress is sometimes called the modern condition. This very apt! Our physiology has changed little over thousands of years yet our lifestyles have altered out of recognition.  If a time traveller from the stone age dropped in to experience an average day today they would encounter a very different way of life from their own.  Today we have do by yesterday deadlines; we place huge expectations upon ourselves.  Enormous pressures.  We are bombarded by information and sense impressions rain down on us from every angle.  We live at a very fast pace!  Few of us would want to go back to living in a cave, however if we allow it to, modern life can take its toll on us.

The Still Point Inside

It is vital, therefore to discover the still-point inside.  You can continue to approach life at 100 miles an hour, tensing yourself against its impact or alternatively you can slow down, adjust yourself and maintain a calm centre.  When you discover how to do that you will find that you can achieve as much, if not more each day and yet at all times maintain a sense of serenity and clarity.  Your body-mind will become united, grounded, aligned and in focus.  And your body-mind will thank you for it!
